I've spent a lot of time of many years deciding what is my purpose. This has been a popular question for as long as I can remember. I can remember the pertinent question always asked in school, what do you want to be when you grow up? I have had my share of career goals and ideas yet none of which seem to satisfy me. However we all have gifts and talents that were enabled by God.
Everyone of us are created in God’s image. With that image is a reflection of God’s creativity. Our spiritual being has much work to do as well as our mortal selves during this time on earth. What God has given you it is for YOU to work on. To develop.
I learned over the years that the art of discernment is necessary in life. Not just on a spiritual level but with life in general. Listening for God's voice to give direction is important when trying to bring your goals and dreams into reality. We each have the ability to talk with God and ask for the guidance to know what am I actually good at? Or more importantly what am I passionate about? You maybe wonderful in a particular job or industry yet you loathe the thought of getting up in the morning. That my friend is deeper than not being a morning person.
Here are some tips on how to narrow down your best options:
First step is to determine your personality and skill set. This is important to help you identify the best strengths you have. For instance if you're are patient, a people person, and like explaining and giving knowledge to others, being a Teacher or some type of Instructor maybe a perfect fit for you.
Secondly, once you've found your strengths this can help you narrow down what industry or niche you fit in. I've tried applying my own philosophies into the previous jobs that I had, yet it still left me filling empty due to me working for someone else. With this I discovered becoming my own boss was best for me. I'm able to stand in my own vision and be truthful in my actions. This is definitely a major issue with most people who work for a big company. You at an impasse due to the spiritual and physical being at odds.
Lastly, after you've decided that this is the correct path for yourself, remember to keep an open line of communication with God. It's easy to let others discourage you and have you doubt yourself. I've had many battles with loved ones regarding my decision to work for myself. Most times its easier for people to accept something when the fruits are readily seen, such as financial gains. Yet that is not the be all to end all. I wanted more for myself. I wanted to serve the community and be fulfilled. Living with purpose isn't just a monetary focus, we do know its important, but I also have a spiritual responsibility to hold up.
What I want more of us to do, is to have God in the forefront of the decision making. This will aid with the confusions and struggling when we think of just trying to make it. Being able to wake up loving life and the journey you're on is what God wants for us. He has endowed each of us with different abilities to help ourselves and others. Once you tap into that creative part of yourself let it flourish. Don't stifle the artist or creative that's inside of you. Be encourage to go make your dreams happen. True enough it's won't be easy and there will be tears and frustrations. Again this is when that spiritual relationship come back into play. Give the problems to God and truly listening for his instruction.
You are beautifully created by God. God has filled you with gifts. Start today and unwrap your gifts.
